January Newsletter & Commemoration of the Departed

January 2012 Newsletter
Our January 2012 print Newsletter was recently mailed. If you do not receive our newsletters, you may download a copy in pdf format.
Included in the newsletter is a letter from our Abbot, Bishop George of Mayfield, concerning the pre-Lenten and Lenten commemorations of the departed. Beginning February 18, the first “Saturday of the Departed” for 2012, special prayers for the dead are added to the Saturday liturgical services.
For your convenience, we are providing a pdf download of a commemoration slip for these services. Please write the names of reposed Orthodox Christians (formal Christian first names and clerical titles only, please) and send the slip back to us, together with whatever offering of alms you are able to make on behalf of your loved ones. The Holy Church bears witness that both prayer and almsgiving are beneficial on behalf of the departed, who can no longer pray or perform works of virtue for themselves.

Fund for Assistance
Matching Donation Program for
Holy Cross Monastery
We are very pleased to announce that the Fund For Assistance to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia has responded to appeals for help from our monastery.
This remarkable benevolent organization has been serving youth, clergy in need, missionaries, and various entities of ROCOR for over 50 years. This month they have provided generous assistance to the monastery for daily expenses, and they have now announced a matching funds appeal program that will run until the end of February 2012. The Fund for Assistance will match with their own funds the first $60,000 in donations sent to them for Holy Cross Monastery. The assistance provided by the FFA will allow us to shift our focus from just surviving to actually building a monastery that can accommodate the men who want to give their lives in service to Christ and His Holy Church and the pilgrims who wish to come to pray here. Please make an extra effort to send whatever you can in response to this appeal between now and the end of February 2012.
To read about this matching funds program and make a donation, please visit the Fund for Assistance website today.
If you send donations to the FFA, please do not hesitate to also send us names of Orthodox souls living and reposed for commemoration at the Divine Liturgy. You may submit them using our general contact page.
